Golden Grizzlies postseason media day

As Oakland (23-8, 17-1) prepares to enter the Summit League Tournament for the first time as a No. 1 seed, the Golden Grizzlies opened practice to the media Tuesday for a question-and-answer session. Senior forward Derick Nelson talked about how difficult it was to watch his team from the bench last season, while fellow senior Johnathon Jones talked about the possibility of a day of rest with a quarterfinal win Saturday. Kampe also noted with great emphasis Jones' contributions to the team.

The Grizzlies face UMKC Saturday at 7 p.m. in Sioux Falls, S.D. The game will be carried locally on FSN Detroit and WDFN-AM (1130).
Oakland has won seven straight over the Kangaroos, including a regular-season sweep this season.
The Grizzlies lost in the championship game last season on a last-second shot and haven't won it since 2005. A tournament championship would fall in line with the regular-season title the Grizzlies secured with a game left in the regular season.
Oakland won a school-record 10 road games this season, going 8-1 in league play, but Kampe noted Tuesday that the tournament isn't really a road game, unless you're playing South Dakota State, which would happen if both teams advance to the semifinals (a very likely scenario).
The Grizzlies are No. 8 in the latest in the Mid-Major poll and have won 24 of their last 25 conference games.
