Jeltema going pro in Germany

The Grand Rapids Press is reporting that hometown girl Melissa Jeltema (Grand Rapids Christian), a first-team All Summit League pick a season ago, has accepted an offer from Chemnitz Chemcats, a womens professional team in Germany. The report says she will leave in early August to go overseas for a season which begins in September.
The Chemcats are reportedly one of three teams overseas to offer Jeltema a contract, a season after she led the Golden Grizzlies with 15.6 points and 7.7 rebounds per game.
Jeltema's appearance in a basketball camp overseas piqued interest in the former Oakland captain.
“The camp was a lot of fun and I met a lot of people and saw a little bit of Germany,” Jeltema said. “I didn’t know what to expect coming in, but I was a little bit surprised when I was picked as MVP," she told the paper.
Jeltema was a steadying force for a Grizzlies team thrown into chaos on the eve of her senior season, when center Brittany Carnago went down with a season-ending knee injury, which was one reason the Grizzlies went with a young lineup for much of the season. Jeltema was a double-double machine, leading the team in both rebounding and scoring on their way to a second-place finish in the regular-season Summit League standings.
Her Oakland career ended on a sour note, as the Grizzlies were unceremoniously shooed out of the conference tournament by an upstart No. 7-seeded Western Illinois team.
