Oakland adds former Drexel assistant Brandon Weems to coaching staff

Former Drexel assistant coach Brandon Weems appears to be headed to Oakland University to join Greg Kampe's staff as an assistant coach.
Weems updated his Twitter and Facebook pages to reflect his new job status Monday evening.
High Major Scoop reported the move Monday as well.
Prior to his time at Drexel, Weems served as an assistant director of basketball operations and a graduate assistant under John Calipari at Kentucky.
A native of Akron, Ohio, Weems was an All-American point guard at Division II Walsh (Ohio) University.
Reportedly, Weems is a former high school teammate of LeBron James from St. Vincent-St. Mary's in Akron and maintains a close relationship with the NBA superstar.
After three seasons at Kentucky, Weems accepted the assistant position at Drexel for the 2012-13 season.
Weems' addition to Kampe's staff was necessitated with former associate coach Jeff Tungate's ascension to the head women's position following the firing of Beckie Francis in June. Saddi Washington was then promoted to the associate coaching position, replacing Tungate.

Oakland adds 2014 guard Alek Frascone from Utica Eisenhower
Oakland coach Greg Kampe must have developed a fondness for Utica Eisenhower players after the success he found with forward Corey Petros.
Eagles guard Alek Frascone gave his verbal commitment to Oakland University Sunday evening.
Living in the shadows of the Rochester-area school and attending summer camps at the O'rena left a lasting impression on the 6-foot-2, 185-pound combo guard.
"I've been wanting to go there since I was a little kid," Frascone said.
Frascone said he has yet to take an official visit, adding he also received offers from Division II schools Northwood, Hillsdale and Lake Superior State University. Oakland offered him in late June, Frascone said.
Of his future coach, Frascone said of Kampe, "He's not a soft coach. He'll get on you if you make mistakes."
Last week, Oakland added transfer Artis Cleveland, formerly of Mississippi Valley State, who will sit out 2013-14.
Eds. note: A previous version of this post should have reported Frascone will be a scholarship player for Oakland University.
